Advocacy Toolkit

The Association of Public Health Nurses (APHN) public health policy workgroup has prepared the following resource to aid you, our members and community partners, throughout the legislative process. The APHN is proud to present to you this tool kit for advocacy. This tool kit is a compilation of resources designed to provide you with guidance for planning advocacy efforts as well as basic information regarding the legislative process.

This resource provides you with techniques and tools to become a public health advocate. The tool kit supports your advocacy efforts, contains templates for a variety of advocacy activities, and allows you to choose options based on your skill level and goals. The tool kit is a resource for:

1.    Organizations and individuals developing public health advocacy skills and policy knowledge;

2.    Communicating consistent and effective messages regarding population-based public health issues to community leaders and policy makers; and

3.    Advocates supporting population-based public health community prevention needs and supporting development of new solutions in promoting public health.
