This position functions as a member of the Adult Protective Services team. Adult Protective Services is mandated by the State of California to investigate reports of abuse perpetrated against elders over the age of 65, as well as dependent adults between the ages of 18 and 64. The position performs investigations that involve complex health and safety issues which require the specialized assessment skills of a Public Health Nurse. The position requires the review of the client’s immediate and ongoing risk factors related to health, safety, capacity and the ability to protect him/herself in addition to identifying possible resources to help reduce those risks. The position also requires travel to all areas of Monterey County and visits to clients are often unannounced. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary team including, but not limited to, of Social Workers, law enforcement, and local medical providers.
The ideal candidate shall have the following characteristics: experience working with elderly and disabled adults, as well as those with mental illness or substance use disorders. The candidate shall have experience conducting home visits. Bilingual preferred, but not required.

Pursuant to Title 17 of the California Administrative Code, possession of a license in active status, to practice as a registered nurse in California and possession of a Public Health Nursing Certificate.
One year of responsible professional experience in public health nursing.
An equivalent combination of education and experience to satisfactorily perform these duties.

Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid California Driver License on first day of work. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California Driver License for the class of vehicle driven. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible for overtime pay.
All new hires will be subject to Live Scan Fingerprinting.

The ability to speak, read, and write Spanish in addition to English would be an asset in this position, but is not required.
